After your test
You have now passed your test and can ride without L-plates and even carry a pillion. We would firstly recommend that you get some miles under your belt and learn how your bike handles in various conditions before attempting to carry a pillion. Controlling the bike can sometimes be difficult enough for an inexperienced rider without the adding complication of a passenger jumping up and down on the back!

Secondly please remember you are now classed as a new rider/driver and if you get 6 points within 2 years of passing your test you revert back to a provisional licence. This applies to your whole licence so even if you have been driving cars for 20 years you are now classed as a new driver for all entitlements on your licence and will lose the ability to drive your car as well as your bike if you get 6 points. We know it’s mad but we don’t make the rules so take it easy on the roads for the next 2 years!

If you haven’t already bought your kit you will need to (see buying your kit) and you’ll need to get a bike & insurance. Smart Learning can help you here as well (see buying your first motorcycle).

Once you have been riding some months you may also wish to take further training or your advanced motorcycle test. Click here to access the Institute of Advanced Motorists site and find out more about their courses.

Irrespective of what you ride you have now just started a brand new chapter in your life and we hope you will enjoy many years of safe biking!
